As per the details, a team from Gwalior headed by

deputy collector

Deepshikha Bhagat, along with nayab tehsildar Vandana Yadav, visited the diagnostic centre after receiving regular inputs that women from

Madhya Pradesh

were sent here for illegal sex determination of their unborn children.

During initial investigations, they had rounded up an Anganwadi female worker Aruna Yadav, who used to act as a mediator.

The team got in touch with the local authorities after reaching here. Nayab tehsildar herself, as a decoy customer, contacted a native broker Shubhash Yadav and clinched a deal of Rs 10,000 for conducting the test. The broker took the decoy customer to Jai Matadi Ultrasound Centre situated opposite to Jhansi Medical College where they met with one Ram Naresh Patel.

During the negotiation, other team members also arrived along with Jhansi authorities—ACM Vanya Singh and nodal head (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) Dr Mahendra Kumar—and caught them red-handed.

As per city magistrate Salil Kumar Patel, the centre is registered in the name of Dr ML Verma who was not present during the raid.

The test was being conducted by Ram Naresh Patel, an arts graduate, whereas, Subhash and Aruna worked as brokers. During interrogation, Aruna revealed that in the past, she had brought three more people for the test and charged Rs 10,000 each from them.

“We have seized the ultrasound machine, along with a tracker machine, computer harddisk and a few registers. We are preparing to lodge a case under Section 28 of PCPNDT Act in consultation with the APO,” said the city magistrate.
