KANPUR: On the instructions of deputy chief traffic manager (CTM) Ashutosh Singh, Kanpur Central Railway Station, assistant commercial manager (ACM) Santosh Kumar Tripathi launched a massive checking drive in the trains between Kanpur and Delhi from October 3. The drive will continue till October 12.

During the ongoing drive, 427 SIs and constables were caught traveling in AC sleeper coaches without tickets. Also, 6056 general passengers were caught without ticket and 31 parcel packets were also caught in general coaches which had not been booked.

A fine of more than Rs 39 lakh was collected from them. The team checked 325 trains, including Kanpur Shatabdi, Lucknow Shatabdi, Prayagraj and Shram Shakti. Out of 427 constables caught without tickets, 229 were found traveling in the AC coaches. A fine of around Rs 14,051 was collected from the passengers bringing parcels without booking.

Around 32 illegal vendors were also caught and handed over to RFP for legal action against them. The campaign will continue in the days to come, said ACM Santosh Tripathi.

"We received inputs that many police personnel on/off duty were travelling in the AC coaches and sleeper coaches of the trains without tickets causing inconvenience to the bona fide passengers.

Whenever they were asked to produce their travel authority by the Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs), they only produced the identity cards. If police personnel are found to be travelling without tickets, necessary action will be taken against them”, the ACM said.
