40 injured as bus overturns, falls into ditch on Agra expressway

KANPUR: At least 40 people were injured when a private double decker bus overturned and fell into a ditch on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway near Kannauj on Sunday morning.

The condition of 12 injured is critical and are undergoing treatment at Tirwa Medical College, said police. Remaining 30 injured were admitted to a govt hospital in Kannauj.

The bus was heading from Jaunpur to Delhi. Police said the bus driver fell asleep which led to the accident. The accident occurred in Chhibramau tehsil of Kannauj.

Police force from several police stations were sent to the spot to carry out the rescue.

Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority teams also helped in the rescue.

UPEIDA security officer Manohar Singh said, “The private double decker bus, belonging to RS Yadav and driven by Saurabh Kumar (25), was heading to Delhi from Jaunpur with 110 passengers.”
