Kanpur: The police rescued three girls who were brought to the city from West Bengal and Nepal over the pretext of jobs but were being made to work as domestic help here.The breakthrough was made following inputs provided by a socio-legal organisation.

Rohit Tiwari said that a team of the labour department and additional municipal magistrate had approached them in this regard.
Later, in coordination with the administrative officials, the two girls hailing from Siliguri, West Bengal were recovered following a raid in a house in Govind Nagar’s U-Block.
Similarly, another girl, a Nepali national, was recovered from a house in Civil Lines.
Advocate Nandini Verma, member of the socio-legal organisation, said that these girls were handed over to the city people on June 23 by an agent of a consultancy company.
“The girls were forced to work day and night and were being tortured. The girls had somehow informed the family members about the ordeal to their family members over the phone. Subsequently, the family members had sought help from a Nepal-based organisation. Its members had then apprised us. Subsequently, we met DM Visakh G Iyer and brought the matter to his knowledge. Thereafter, the DM deputed his subordinates to initiate action in this regard,” said Verma further.
According to the police, the girls who were rescued told the investigators that the agency had promised them employment.tnn
