3 die as roof collapses due to heavy rain

KANPUR: Three members of a family including a minor boy were killed, while one other sustained serious injuries when the roof of their house collapsed due to heavy rains, in Kakadeo area during the wee hours of Tuesday.
The incident occurred in Hitkarinagar of Kakadeo and the dead were identified as Vinod Sharma (40), his mother Gulab Devi (66) and son Satyam (12).Sharma's wife Neelu (35), who suffered serious injuries, has been admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in a critical state. Three other members of the family, however, survived as they were sleeping in another room of the house when the incident took place. Hearing the loud thud of the roof collapse, neighbours raised an alarm and informed the police and local administration. Even as people rushed to the spot to rescue people buried under the rubble, they couldn't save them.SP (Rural), Manoj Sonker said that the roof of the house was in a dilapidated state and it collapsed due to bad weather. The bodies have been sent to the local morgue and will be handed over to their relatives after postmortem examination. District authorities have asked for a detailed report from the sub-ordinates in this regard. A senior district official said the district administration will give an ex-gratia amount to the bereaved family as it was a natural calamity.
