When Neeru refused, all of them reportedly assaulted her with leather belts.
They strangled her to death with a nylon rope and later hanged her body from the ceiling of her room, said reports.
Later, Neeru's father-in-law told his neighbours that their daughter-in-law had committed suicide. The locals of the area found Neeru's body hanging from the ceiling with injuries all over her body.
The neighbours then informed Neeru's parents who called police on the spot. The police sent the body for autopsy and arrested three persons named in the FIR. The police said that the body was hanged from the ceiling to make it look like a case of suicide.

Acting on the complaint of Neeru's parents, the police registered a case of murder against her husband Shailendra Kumar Verma, Shanti Devi and Shyam Sunder Verma.
The police arrested all the three accused who confessed that they had killed Neeru.
According to Neeru's aunt Baby, Shailendra's family had been harassing the girl and demanding cash and valuables in dowry ever since her marriage two years ago. She also said that Neeru was six-month pregnant.
