KANPUR: The Special Investigation Team has declared a reward on four absconding accused in the June 3, 2022 Nai Sadak violence case. Police have appealed to the court for non-bailable warrants against the four. Meanwhile, proceedings for attaching their assets have been initiated, along with those of seven other accused.

Rioters had pelted stones and opened fire in the Nai Sadak area during a protest against remarks on Prophet Mohammad by a former BJP leader. Police registered cases and arrested several accused, including main alleged conspirator Hayat Zafar Hashmi, besides Javed Ahmed, Mukhtar Baba (owner of Baba Biryani) and builder Haji Wasi and sent them to jail, while several accused are still absconding. SIT is probing the matter.

SIT in charge and DCP East Ravindra Kumar said police declared a reward of Rs 20,000 each on the accused, including Phera, a resident of Jajmau, Sablu of Chamanganj and Shafiq of Beconganj. A reward of Rs 10,000 has been announced on Adnan, resident of Bajaria.

Kumar said apart from the four rewarded accused, an order has been taken from MM-5 Court to initiate attachment proceedings against Zeeshan, Abdul Shakeel, Ishrat Ali, Mohammad Rashid, Akhlaq Ahmed and Sarwar Alam. “The court has allowed attachment proclamation and if the accused do not surrender within the stipulated time, attachment exercise will be carried out,” he said and added that apart from this, a request has been made to the court to issue non-bailable warrants against Adnan, Shadab, Zeeshan and Babar.
