Kanpur: Two persons died while one was injured seriously when they were run over by an unidentified speeding vehicle while they were changing a flat tyre of their pick-up vehicle on the GT road highway in Bilhaur area of the district late Saturday night.
As the speeding heavy vehicle grazed the pick-up’s side, the three who were changing tyre were caught between the two vehicles and suffered serious injuries, police said.
Police reached along with an ambulance and took all three to Shivrajpur Community Health Center. Doctors declared one brought dead, the other died on the way to Kanpur. Police said the accident occurred around 1 am.
Police identified the deceased as Fareed Ahmad of Jajmau and
Vijay Shankar of Rae Bareli, while the injured was identified as Vikas and was referred to Kanpur for treatment. The three were on their way to Kanpur from Bilhaur in a pick-up vehicle and when they reached the Uttaripura area of Bilhaur, they noticed a flat tyre and parked on the side of the road to change it.
“A heavy vehicle ran past, hitting the trio in the process. The three couldn’t move as they were trapped between the speeding vehicle and their van,” the officer added.
A few motorists passing the accident scene alerted police control room. Fareed was declared dead at Shivrajpur CHC and Vijay Shankar died on way to Kanpur, while Vikas is undergoing treatment.
“We have registered a case of rash and negligent driving and are on the lookout for the offending vehicle driver who fled the scene,” said Uttaripura police outpost incharge Satish Chandra Yadav.
