Kanpur: The additional district and sessions Judge, Kanpur Nagar, on Monday awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000 to a man, Shailendra Pal, for committing the murder of his wife.The judge also sentenced co-accused Piyush Pal to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000. If the accused failed to pay the fine, they would have to serve an additional one-year jail term. The period they had spent in jail during the trial would be accommodated in the sentence, the judge observed. The court had found them guilty of murder on August 30 and fixed September 1 to hear the quantum of sentence.The counsel for Shailendra Pal pleaded that as the accused was the lone male member and there was no one to take care of his family, therefore, he should be punished with the minimum sentence while Piyush Pal's counsel argued that Piyush belonged to a very poor family and there was no one to take care of him, therefore, the court should take a lenient view.On the other hand, additional district government counsel Dharmendra Pal Singh argued that since the accused had committed a heinous offence of murder; therefore, they should be punished with the maximum sentence. The ADGC stated that Rekha Devi, mother of the deceased Khushboo in her FIR stated that her daughter Khushboo Pal was married to Shailendra on February 10, 2022. After marriage, when Khushboo came to her house, she informed her mother that her husband Shailendra had illicit relations with the sister of his brother's wife.On August 30, Khushboo went to learn a beauty parlour course but did not return. When Rekha Devi met with the owners of the beauty parlour, they did not tell the truth and forced her to leave the place. On September 7, 2022, she lodged an FIR at Narwal police station.Her Son-in-law Shailendra also misled her. On the intervening night of October 1 and 2, Rekha Devi received a call from the police. When she reached there, she identified the skeleton of Khushboo through her clothes and jewellery.The police recovered Khushboo's mobile from Piyush Pal, who is a friend of Shailendra Pal. Shailendra and Piyush had taken Khushboo to Narwal town and stayed there for a couple of days with a man named Uday where they killed Khushboo and buried her dead body on the backside of a nearby house.
