17-year-old girl harassed by father’s friend, ends life

Kanpur: A 17-year-old girl allegedly hanged herself to death in her room after being harassed by her father's friend in the city. The Gwalatoli inspector Durgesh Mishra said that a case has been filed under the charge of abetment to suicide based on the family's complaint. The investigation has been launched and efforts are being made to arrest the accused.The girl's father alleged that his friend Yogesh Sahu, who lived in Sooterganj, used to visit their home frequently. They considered Yogesh as their family member, he said but Yogesh behaved with her daughter in inappropriate manner. The girl complained to her mother about this. She revealed that he had tried to touch her improperly multiple times and showed her obscene photos and videos on the phone. When her father found out, he complained to Yogesh's family. He stopped him from visiting their home and has cut all the ties with his family from two years. Despite this, Yogesh did not stop his actions and started harassing the girl when she used to go to college or return. As a result, her father started dropping and picking her up. The girl went into depression. On August 31, on her birthday, Yogesh messaged her and even stopped her on her way to college. Meanwhile, the girl's marriage was fixed. When Yogesh found this he called the girl's aunt living in Bhilai, from an unknown number on Dec 14 and accused the girl of having a bad character. When thsi news reached the girl's home she started crying and went to her room. When he father sent the younger daughter to call her, she was found hanging.
