KANPUR: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour on the pretext of marriage, in
Bhognipur
police area of
Kanpur Dehat
district. A case has been registered against the accused on Sunday.
As per police reports, the accused was identified as Chandrapal, who resides in neighbourhood.
Chandrapal
had come in the survivor's contact about eight months ago and the both started having an affair.
He promised to marry her and one day raped her while she was alone in the house. Chandrapal later went back on is words and refused to marry the girl.
The girl then apprised her parents of the incident, who then reported the matter to the
Bhognipur Kotwali
police. Chandrapal in on the run.
"A case has been registered with the Bhognipur Kotwali police under Section 376 (punishment for rape), 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or compelling woman to marriage etc) of the IPC, besides POCSO Act," SHO Bhognipur Anup

, said. A police official privy to the investigation said, "We have registered a case. The accused Chandrapal is absconding. Raids are on to arrest him."
