12-member working panel elected by KMC House

Kanpur: A 12-member working committee of Kanpur Municipal Corporation was elected unanimously here on Friday. The House was called to elect working committee members and KDA board members by Mayor Pramila Pandey.The elected working committee members are: Nirdesh Singh Chauhan, Ashumendra Pratap Singh, Vikas Jaiswal, Devendra Dwivedi, Deepak Sharma, Aarti Gautam, Pawan Gupta, Santosh Sahu, Yogendra Sharma (all BJP) Abhishek Gupta and Liyaqat Ali (SP) and Anjali Adarsh Dixit (Congress).The House proceedings commenced around 11.15 a.m. with the recitation of ‘Vande Mataram’. The Mayor thereafter greeted and congratulated the corporators and then adjourned the proceedings for half an hour. She said that leaders of all big political parties should discuss and with mutual consent elect their representatives for the working committee and KDA board members. Samajwadi Party had named Abhihsek Gupta and Liyaqat Ali as its candidates and named Anupriya Dubey for KDA board member. Congress had announced the names of Anjali Adarsh Dixit and Amandeep Kaur for the working committee and Sohail Ahmad for KDA board members. BJP leaders should settle the names of their representatives.After half an hour when the House proceedings commenced once again, senior leaders said they had elected working committee members unanimously. Nine out of 12 members belong to BJP and 2 and 1 belong to Samajwadi Party and Congress, respectively. The Mayor thereafter announced the names of elected working committee members. However, a section of the corporators said that at least one member should be inducted as an Independent candidate. The Mayor told Arvind Yadav, an Independent corporator, that next time there would be one Independent member too.Meanwhile, corporator Pawan Gupta, in a bid to corner the officials, brought a complaint box inside, but later took it outside when the Mayor reprimanded him over the act.Naveen Pandit, corporator from Govind Nagar and leader of the BJP party, claimed that he had named five persons for KDA board members. But after deliberations and discussion, Sohail Ahmad and others withdrew their names and he dropped one name of Awadhesh Tripathi. Elected for KDA board members are Kailash Pandey, Saurabh Dev, Arun Garg and Dheeraj Tripathi.As soon as the proceedings of the House were over, women corporators were seen busy taking selfies. Municipal commissioner Shiv Sharanappa GN and other officials were present in the House.
