Umaid hosp to give fresh clothes to women in labour
Jodhpur: Western Rajasthan's biggest women and child hospital, Umaid Hospital in Jodhpur, has planned to provide fresh clothes to women coming to the hospital in labour from far off places before admitting them.
The decision has been taken to address the possibility of infection caused by the soiled clothes, worn by the women continuously for the past few days.

Superintendent of the hospital, Afzal Hakim said that mostly the women reach the hospital from far off rural areas and even in critical condition with their soiled clothes. He said that they, in all likelihood, are the carrier of possible infections and admitting them with the same clothes on, can contaminate the environment of the hospital.
“So, to do away with any such possibility, we have decided to replace their old clothes with fresh ones before receiving them in the hospital”, he said.
Proposed by HoD (gynaecology) Rizwana Shaheen, the idea is likely to be first of its kind ever introduced in any of the government hospitals. “Our first and foremost concern at the hospital is to keep it free from any contamination. We try our best to keep it so internally by roping in techniques like fumigation etc. They are in our control, but to control the external factors is a bit difficult," said Shaheen.
She said that the soiled clothes of the
women in labour arriving at the hospital in unfriendly conditions are the carriers of infection making its way into the hospital.
“So, by changing their clothes to the fresh one before their admission will be a significant step to further control the infections in the hospital. We have already processed the order of the dresses,” said Shaheen.
“Once 1,000 dresses are ready, we will start providing them to women coming to the hospital for delivery before admitting them to the wards," Hakim informed.
