Two arrested for stealing gold worth ₹70L in Jodhpur, all items recovered

Jodhpur: Police arrested two thieves, a day after they stole gold worth Rs 70 lakh in Jodhpur on Tuesday morning. Both accused, who are relatives, were caught from Ajmer, when they had boarded a bus to Delhi.
Police have also recovered the stolen jewellery and gold from them, which weighed 1.91 kg with an estimated worth of Rs 70 lakh.
Police scanned the CCTV footage of the entire area right from the spot of the incident to the hotel they had stayed in.Based on the information from this hotel, police found their travel details to Ajmer. Identified as Sheikh Farhad Ali (41) and Ismail Mondal (51), both are from Hubli in West Bengal. Of these, the former accused and a goldsmith by profession, had been under judicial custody in Kanpur for similar theft and had come out on bail this April.
DCP (East) Amrita Duhan said that both the accused had started from Kanpur and had reached Jodhpur on May 25 by train via Delhi and stayed at Priya Guest House in Jodhpur.
“Since their arrival in Jodhpur, they took 5 days to identify their next target and finally broke into 2 jewellery shops in Ghodon ka Chowk area on the night of May 29," said Duhan.
Duhan said that during the recce they accessed the key of the market's main gate and zeroed in on these two shops as they had only one lock on their shutters instead of two locks on other shops.
According to the preliminary investigation, the two accused stayed in Ajmer for a short time but did not find any worth to carry out theft there. Both the brothers-in-law have a union to carry out jewellery theft, for which they travel throughout the entire country and flee after doing the crime.
