SHO shunted for delay in FIR over murder of priest

Jodhpur: A police officer was sent to the lines here on Monday for being negligent in the case of a fatal assault on a temple priest and filing the FIR a day after the incident. The incident had taken place on Saturday night, while the report was filed on Sunday.
DCP (West) Gaurav Yadav, while confirming the action, said that some unidentified persons had fatally assaulted Kailash Nath, a priest of a temple in Soorsagar, on Saturday night and fled from the spot.
“SHO of Soorsagar police station Dilip Singh Shekhawat was supposed to file the FIR instantly and take action. But he filed the FIR next day. Considering this to be a dereliction in duty, we have ordered to send him to the lines,” said Yadav.
Police have not yet succeeded in apprehending the assailants, who are said to have assaulted the priest due to some dispute between them.
The priest has been undergoing treatment at MDM Hospital here for a fracture in one hand and other multiple injuries. TNN
