Senior Jodhpur doctor appointed member of WHO advisory group

Jodhpur: Dr Arvind Mathur, senior physician and former principal of SN Medical College Jodhpur, has been appointed as member of an Advisory Group of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for a period of two years.
He is currently associated with a voluntary organisation, Asha Caregiver Society, which he founded with the aim of assessing needs of caregivers and conducting evidence-based research to reduce stress and burden of family caregiving. Talking to TOI, Mathur said, “There is an absolute vacuum of healthcare knowledge among family members of a patient who reaches home after hospital admission. He gets proper healthcare in hospital but not the follow-up care at home.” “So we are trying for coordination between a health professional and the care-giver. We will share the outcome with the WHO so that a proper policy could be drafted in this context,” said Mathur.
Mathur also holds the post of Director, ASIAN Center for Medical Education and Innovation, which aims to improve healthcare delivery in Asia through medical education, research and innovative methods. He is also devoted to the healthcare of elderly persons through his association with various national and international consultative committees for healthcare of the elderly.
