JAISALMER: A controversy has erupted over a BJP poster in Rajasthan, which claimed that thousands of farmers lost their land due to loan defaults.
The farmer whose image is featured on the poster has accused the party of misusing his photo. The farmer's son clarified that their family's land has not been auctioned, and they do not have any outstanding debt.
The BJP released the poster as part of its campaign titled 'Nahi Sahega Rajasthan' (Rajasthan won't tolerate it). The poster displays a photo of a farmer and asserts that over 19,000 farmers in Rajasthan had their land auctioned off due to loan repayment failures. It has been prominently displayed in various parts of the state.
Madhuram Jaipal, a 70-year-old farmer from Jaisalmer, stated that the BJP had improperly used his picture in the poster. He has informed local BJP leaders to remove his photo, warning of legal action if they fail to comply.
Jugtaram, Jaipal's son, emphasized, "We request the BJP to remove my father's photo from the poster. People are making adverse comments on social media. Neither was our land auctioned nor do we have a debt. We are sitting in our farm."
In Jaipur, chief minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the BJP for resorting to falsehoods in their election campaign. He mentioned that he heard the farmer had responded strongly and intended to file a defamation case. Gehlot asserted that the BJP had been exposed.
