Jodhpur: Call it indifference of the police in following up the missing cases or negligence of the family members to report the re-association with the missing members to the police, the Jodhpur police found 48 missing children at their respective homes during a special operation carried out to resolve cases of missing persons pending for up to last 10 years.
To the surprise of the police, when the specially constituted teams racked up these pending cases and contacted the families of the missing persons, they found 48 ‘missing’ persons, mostly children, present in their respective homes, after which the police took statements of the missing persons and shut the cases. Police commissioner (Jodhpur) Rajendra Singh said that 229 cases pertaining to missing minors and kidnapping of women had been found pending in police stations of East and West zones of the commissionerate.
“We constituted six teams under the direction of the ACP (crime against women cell), which began work from May 22,” Singh said, adding that 154 families have been contacted so far and of these, 48 persons have been found present at their homes.
“Twelve missing persons in East zone and 36 in West zone were found present at their homes. Their statements were recorded by SHOs and the cases were shut subsequently,” Singh said. The drive will continue until all the families are contacted, he said.
