Cop arrested for taking bribe, head constable escapes

Jodhpur: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday arrested a constable for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for his senior, a head constable. The bribe had been taken in the name of investigation in the case reported by the complainant. After receiving information about the action, the head constable fled. ACB has launched a hunt for him.According to sources, no action was being taken by the head constable in a case of assault registered in June at the Luni police station. Head constable Shambhu Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 for taking action in his case. Earlier, the complainant's father had already paid Rs 3,000, but the head constable still did not initiate investigation. When the complainant followed up with the head constable, he insisted that the full amount must be paid to initiate action. Then, the complainant filed a complaint with the ACB office, sources said.ACB verified the complaint, and later, when the complainant went to the police station with the remaining amount on Sunday as directed and called the head constable, he was instructed to hand over the money to a constable Munna Ram. As soon as the complainant gave Rs 5,000, the ACB team caught him.ASP (ACB) Chakravarti Singh said that the complainant had filed the complaint on Saturday stating that a case of assault involving the complainant, his father, and his brother had been registered at the Luni police station in June. The head constable was the investigating officer in this case, he said.

Police Constable Among Two Arrested for Theft

A police constable and his friend were arrested by Kilpauk police for allegedly robbing Rs. 5.5 lakhs from a man in Chennai on Saturday. The suspects posed as policemen and took the money from Jabunul Azad, who delayed reporting due to its hawala nature. Police recovered Rs. 3.1 lakhs.

Constable granted bail in attempted kidnapping case

The Goa children's court has granted bail to IRB constable Nikesh Chari, who is accused of attempting to kidnap a minor boy in Korgao. They intercepted the victim after he exited an ATM, took his money and mobile phone, and instructed him to visit the police station. The victim delayed reporting because it was hawala money.
