JODHPUR: Five students were detained and six were injured during protests held at Jai Narayan Vyas University here on Monday to demand student union elections, Police charged at the students with batons to disperse them.

The demonstrating students were insisting on meeting vice-chancellor K L Shrivastava to submit a memorandum.

The university administration said as the VC was out of Jodhpur, he could not meet them. Consequently, the students insisted on meeting the registrar, who also did not arrive.

Students associated with NSUI, ABVP and other unions assembled at the main gate of the central office of JNVU. Police were deployed at the central office and barricades put up before the main gate of the office.
