JODHPUR: Four devotees were swept away by a strong current of rainwater at Sundha Mata temple in Jalore on Saturday morning. Body of a female devotee was recovered, while three were rescued. Three other devotees were rescued and taken to the hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Jaswantpura police station in-charge Pratap Singh said the deceased female devotee has been identified as Lakshmi (45) from Dungarpur.

Singh said heavy rainfall occurred on Sundha Mata Hill from 8am to 11am, causing the stream to swell. The water began flowing rapidly over the temple steps, and in the strong current, five people, including two women, were swept away.

Teams from SDRF and Civil Defense were rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information. Meanwhile, the ropeway leading from the base to the temple has been closed, and police have warned tourists to stay away from the stream.

During the rainy season, a large number of tourists from nearby districts and Gujarat visit Sundha Mata temple. On Saturday, a large number of tourists and devotees had gathered at the mountain stream, but heavy rains in the morning brought a deluge from thenearb mountain streams.
