Jodhpur: Police patrolling in the night has always been in question in general. But this question acquires greater concern when some crime takes place not only on a main road of a city but also barely 100-150 meters away from a police station. Residents of Jodhpur experienced this seriousness when some miscreants razed a shop using a bulldozer in the dead of Friday night.Stated to be a fallout of a discord between the owner of the land and the tenant of the shop, the shop was located on one of the main roads of the city at the Jaljog Circle, a busy commercial center, and barely 100-150 meters away from Sardarpura police station. The CCTV grabs from the spot showed some persons reaching the spot at about 2.30am on Saturday with a bulldozer and razed the structure in a huff in about half an hour and left.According to the tenant of the shop Kulvinder Singh, who had taken this shop on rent from its owner and had been operating a restaurant, there is a dispute with the owner of the land and a matter is pending in the Rent Tribunal.“But inspite of that, some person belonging to the owner came at about 2.30am on Saturday with a bulldozer and razed the entire shop and damaged the goods. This has resulted in a loss of Rs 15-20 lakh,” Singh said, adding that a report has been given to the police.SHO (Shastri Nagar) Devendra Singh said that the recording from the CCTV cameras installed there has been obtained and identification of the accused is under process. The victim said that a similar attempt to damage the property had been made earlier also and a report had been given to the police against some person by name but no action was taken on this report. The incident has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of night patrolling by the police in the city.
