After killing father, man drowns self along with son in Pali village

Jodhpur: A man strangled his father to death in Pali on Wednesday late night and then jumped into a pond with his five-year-old son. Both of them died, said police.
The man was divorced at a social panchayat a few days ago and he held his father responsible for his divorce, according to the preliminary police investigation.
The incident took place in Kulthana village under Jaitpur police station of Pali. It took the police and rescuers about four hours to fish out the bodies from the pond due to darkness.
Police said Prakash Patel (30) was married to Narayani Devi about 10 years ago, while his sister was married to the brother of Narayanai Devi seven years ago. Due to marital disputes, Prakash’s sister came back to her parental house and was married to some other person. This step was resented by Prakash’s in-laws and in a retaliatory action they took his wife away.
“A divorce procedure was initiated by community leaders and divorce was pronounced three days back. Prakash held his father Durgaram (75) responsible for his divorce,” said circle officer (Pali Rural) Ratnaram Dewasi. On Wednesday night, Prakash strangled his father to death and then took his son Rahul out of the house and jumped into the pond with him, Jaitpur SHO Rajendra Singh said.
