Harassment complaints mount against varsity HoD in Jodhpur

Jodhpur: One after the other, 38 students have come forward to complain against the head of department (HoD) of architecture at MBM University, Pulkit Gupta, with the complaints ranging from inappropriate touch to humiliation in front of class and demanding money for activities and events. Though the administration of the university has suspended Gupta following the report of a preliminary investigation, this has not stmmed the flow of complainants against Gupta, which had begun with anonymous letters to the administration. VC Ajay Sharma said that two separate committees have been set up, one to look into allegations of sexual harassment, and the other into allegations of demanding money. “These reports are to be submitted by the committees in a week. Appropriate action will be taken based on these reports”, said Sharma, admitting that preliminary inquiry found the allegations of the students to be true. Female students have alleged that Gupta would not only touch them inappropriately but would also invite them to come to him alone and have a drink with him. “He would lose his temper on any resistance or complaint, and would yell with a warning to teach them a lesson”, said a female student, adding that he threatened students to fail them in exams. Demanding his termination, ABVP on Wednesday shouted slogans against the varsity administration.
