JODHPUR: Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that climate change, a big global concern, is a by-product of the degradation of our culture, which always conserved and cared for cow and pasture land.

He said that there was a time when without any law, the community was concerned for the components of the nature but since the laws were enacted, this culture continued to diminish and today what we got as a gift is the climate change, which is the byproduct of this devaluation in culture.

Shekhawat said this during his address at the 47th Giants International Convention hosted by the Giants Welfare Foundation in Jodhpur on Saturday. Talking about the growing Indian economy and challenges associated with this growth in the light of climate change, the minister said that maintenance of the availability of water is a parallelly growing challenge with economic growth and called upon social organizations to augment their role and contribution to deal with this challenge.

"We will have to inculcate this culture of traditional philosophies of water conservation of India in our new generations," said Shekhawat.
