Criminal nabbed after car chase, shootout

Jodhpur/Jaisalmer: After an exchange of gunfire and a car chase in a market area, ‘Cycloner’ team of Jodhpur Range police on Tuesday evening apprehended Sunil Godara, a wanted criminal. A police sub-inspector was hit by a bullet but was saved by his bulletproof vest. Godara sustained a bullet injury in his leg, IGP of Jodhpur Range, Vikas Kumar, said.
Kumar said Godara had been absconding for four years.“Our Cycloner team was tipped about his presence in Balotra. We traced him to the house he was hiding in. But he jumped off the roof and fled in his vehicle,” said Kumar.
The IGP said that while chasing him, police asked him to surrender, but he began firing at the police. During the chase, his vehicle hit several vehicles in the market area. At one place, his vehicle got stuck and he tried to run away on foot, but police cordoned him. “He whipped out his pistol and shot at the team,” Kumar said.
