Asaram given parole for 7 days for ayurvedic treatment

Jodhpur: In a major relief to Asaram, a convict of sexual abuse of a minor girl student of his gurukul, Jodhpur seat of Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday granted him parole for 7 days for a treatment at a ayurvedic hospital in Maharashtra.Division bench of justice PS Bhati and justice Munnuri Laxman, while granting parole to him, has directed his stay for treatment at the hospital under police custody, the expenses of which will have to be borne by him.According to the order, Asaram's parole will be counted from the day he will leave the jail and the transit will be by air only, be it air ambulance or a normal flight. During this parole, two attendants, chosen by him, will remain with him.Asaram had been admitted to ICU of AIIMS Jodhpur three days back after he had complained of uneasiness and pain in his chest and had been undergoing treatment there. However, he was not satisfied with the allopathic treatment. Insisting on ayurvedic treatment, he had urged the court to grant him permission for the treatment specifically at Madhavbaug Multidisciplinary Cardiac Care Clinic and Hospital in Pune.In March this year also, he had moved the high court with the same prayer seeking a parole for 14 days, but then the court had rejected the plea, following a report from Pune police suspecting threat to law and order situation during his admission to the hospital in Pune.

Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, in jail for rape, gets 7-day parole

Asaram Bapu was granted a 7-day parole on health grounds by the Rajasthan High Court. He is heading to Maharashtra for treatment at an Ayurvedic clinic and will be under police custody. Asaram is serving a life sentence for the rape of a minor in 2013, and this relief was provided despite earlier rejections.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court clarified that the Haryana government could decide on the temporary release of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The court emphasized that any application for his release should align with the Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act, 2022 and must be free from arbitrariness or favoritism.

Parole gives convict chance to reconnect with families

The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court critiqued the prison authorities for rejecting Prahlad Gupta's furlough due to his age and unmarried status. Gupta, serving three life sentences, sought a 28-day furlough for family visits. The court emphasized the importance of furlough for inmates' social well-being and directed the Special IG to reconsider his application with suitable conditions.
