“The report mentioned that both mother and daughter were first strangulated and then burnt using petrol,” said Duhan.
On the basis of the report, police initially detained Ram Prasad and interrogated him, who admitted to having killed his wife Rukmeena (25) and daughter Ridhima (2).
Ram Prasad had married Rukmeena, a native of Nepal, in January 2020 and had been posted in Jodhpur since August 2020. Prasad is a native of Sikkim.
Duhan said that the relationship between husband and wife was not amicable and they would often engage in verbal spats.
“He wanted to get rid of his wife and hatched the plan to kill her. He also decided to kill his infant daughter in order to get rid of her responsibility,” Duhan said.
On the fateful night, he first strangled his wife and then his daughter when they were sleeping in their bed at about 4am and then poured petrol to burn them and eliminate the evidence.
After that, he ran out of the house claiming that he tried to save them but could not and cooked the story that both were burnt in a fire caused by a short circuit in the cooler.
