5-mth-old infant dies at hosp in Jodhpur, dad alleges negligence

Jodhpur: A five-month-old infant died allegedly due to negligence of the doctors and nursing staff at Ummed Hospital here on Monday. Her condition had deteriorated following drop in heart beats in ICU. The angry relatives staged a demonstration outside the hospital for nearly two hours after the incident. The father of the victim said that the negligence of the junior doctor and nursing staff led to the death. He alleged that even the senior doctors ignored the deteriorating condition of his daughter.Afzal Hakim, superintendent of Ummed Hospital, said that a complaint has been lodged by the relatives regarding the negligence in treatment leading to the child's death.“A complaint was given by girl’s father. We have ordered an inquiry in the matter. Further action will be taken based on the report findings,” said Hakim.Kalu, a resident of Langa Colony in Barmer brought his five-month-old daughter Sahiba to Ummed Hospital on Monday due to vomiting and diarrhoea. After preliminary examination, she had been admitted to the ICU.The girl’s father, Kalu, said that she was admitted in the ICU in the afternoon at 12 o’clock and was transferred to the general ward about three hours later. “Girl’s condition suddenly began deteriorating two hours later again. She was given some injections and shifted back to the ICU. But she did not come out alive due to negligence of the doctors and staff,” he stated.He said that when the child's heartbeat was decreasing in the ICU and he repeatedly called out to the staff, but no one responded. “When no one responded to his calling out, I went to the staff room and informed them about the child's condition, but the staff got resented and pushed him out of the room,” he alleged.Holding the doctors and nursing staff responsible for her death, relatives and other people demanded action against negligent doctors and staff, and a complaint letter was submitted to the hospital superintendent.
