Two brothers shot dead over land dispute in Jind
Two brothers were shot dead in Jind district on Wednesday, allegedly over a long-standing land dispute.
According to reports, the assailants entered the gas agency's warehouse and opened fire, killing Satish (44) and Dilbagh (50), both residents of Nirjan village in Jind. The victims were rushed to Jind Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead. The brothers had been running a gas agency in Jind city. The attackers, who arrived in a car, reportedly fired five to six rounds, killing both men on the spot.
Sources said that the two parties, belonging to the same village, had an ongoing dispute over property. The victims’ family has refused to perform the last rites until the accused are arrested.
Mohan, a family member who narrowly escaped the attack, recounted the events: “Around 8:30 PM on Tuesday, my father and uncle were involved in a fight. We even filed a police complaint and got an MLR (Medico-Legal Report) done, but no action was taken. Later that night, I was the first target. While I was traveling in our Scorpio, they opened fire at me. Though the car was hit, I managed to escape. After that, the assailants went to our Satyam Gas warehouse, where my father and uncle were sitting, and shot them dead before fleeing."
Mohan further alleged that the land dispute involved Suraj and his son Mohit, also from Nirjan village. "The matter was already in court, and we had filed several complaints with the authorities. Despite this, the administration failed to act, even when they demolished our wall three times," he added.
DSP Jitender Singh confirmed that both families had been living in the area for 40–50 years and that tension had been simmering due to the property dispute. “Police are investigating the case, and the accused will be arrested soon,” he said.
