Inmate with electrical skills escapes Jind jail using ladder during blackout
JIND: A prisoner escaped from jail in Jind district on Wednesday. The inmate, who was jailed for attempt to murder and under the Arms Act, had knowledge of electrical work.
On the night of the escape, there was a power outage in the jail. Jail personnel deputed at the duty asked the accused to fix the fault. Thereafter taking advantage of the situation under the pretense of fixing the electricity, he used a ladder to climb over the jail wall and fled.
Subsequently, jail minister Arvind Sharma ordered to probe the matter thoroughly and fix the responsibility of concerned personnel.
According to reports, Rakesh, resident of Banarsi village, had been imprisoned in Jind district jail for the past three years. On June 2, 2022, there was an encounter between Jind CIA team and criminals near Khatkar Toll Plaza on the Delhi-Patiala National Highway in Jind district. During this encounter, CIA wing captured two criminals — Rakesh and his accomplice, who both sustained bullet injuries.
The Rohtak police had come to arrest the accused involved in the robbery worth Rs 2.5 crore in Rohtak. During the operation, Rakesh opened fire at them and fled. A head constable was shot in the incident.
On Tuesday night around 8 PM, a power outage occurred in jail, plunging it into darkness. Since Rakesh was known to have knowledge of electrical work, he was asked to check the fault. Using a ladder, Rakesh climbed up to inspect the issue. Seizing the opportunity, he climbed over the wall and jumped to the other side. The news of his escape caused panic in the jail, and authorities launched a search operation to find him but failed to nab him.
Police officials stated that a case has been registered against the accused under 262 of the BNS, prison act and launched a probe.
