JIND: Farmers from the Uchana Kalan segment of Haryana's Jind district which is being considered a hot seat this time and a jat dominated region, formed a committee comprising 37 members to carry out a survey for a consensus name among them to contest an upcoming assembly election against Chautala and Birender's clans.
Uchana Dharna Committee organized a Mahapanchayat of the Uchana Assembly, which was attended by representatives of 37 villages.
The Mahapanchayat decided to form a 37-member committee, which will later be expanded to include representatives from all 66 villages in the assembly. The committee will survey all villages and decide on a consensus candidate for the upcoming assembly elections.
The committee has been formed to free the people of Uchana from the slavery of politicians who have been deceiving them for 52 years. The next Mahapanchayat will be held soon. All political parties are in a state of turmoil due to this decision, and there is a possibility that a major political party may give a ticket to the consensus candidate. If this happens, it will be a historic victory for the people of Uchana, said Azad Palwa, a farmer unionist.
Notably, this seat has been considered a bastion of former union minister Birender Singh's family for the past 50 years but that was snatched by former deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala in 2019 who defeated Prem Lata by a margin of over 48,000 votes. Now both families have been facing the ire of farmers and locals as Naina Chautala, mother of Dushyant Chautala had suffered a significant setback from this segment in recently held Lok Sabha polls who just secured 4210 votes.
Farmers have been alleging that Chautala took votes in the name of farmers against the BJP and later sat on the lap of the saffron party and formed an alliance government. Similarly, farmers have been opposing Brijendra Singh strongly following his stand in support of now repealed three agro-marketing laws. IAS turned politician Brijendra Singh had quit BJP before Lok Sabha elections and joined Congress party but failed to get a ticket from Hisar but is now seeking a ticket for assembly elections. Farmers have been urging Congress top brass to ignore Singh's family in Lok Sabha polls else farmers will contest assembly polls from this seat.
