The Congress held demonstrations at many busy main roads at
A large number of party workers took part in the agitation. Interestingly, even being one of the partners in the ruling combination in the state, none of the demonstrators wore masks or followed Covid-19 protocols, though there has been a sudden rise in the number of positive cases here after Durga Puja.
Shouting slogans against the Union government led by Narendra Modi, Congressmen alleged that due to constant rise in the prices of automotive fuel, life has become difficult for the poor and middle class as prices of essential goods are touching the sky, which is beyond their limits.
They said LPG cylinders are now beyond the reach of poor and middle class households. Congress workers said the government at Centre only thinks for the rich and affluent class. They threatened that if prices of fuel and LPG are not rolled back, an intensified agitation would be launched in the coming days.
Sakchi party unit head Rahul Goswami said petrol has crossed the century mark and if this trend continues, LPG cylinder will soon cross the Rs 1,000 mark.
Meanwhile, commuters had a miserable time as they had to take detours because protesters were squatting on roads. Traffic snarls were also reported from various places.
