: A 29-year-old

doctor

of the government-run MGM medical hospital attempted suicide by shooting himself with a revolver. Amit Kumar Singh fired one bullet on his head from point blank range from a licensed gun of his brother. He was immediately rushed to the Tata Main Hospital by his family members. He is admitted in the critical care unit and his condition is reportedly critical.


He is a resident of ‘S’ type colony in Adityapur. According to police, Amit's brother and mother were at home when the incident occurred. "What prompted him to take the step is being probed," said Adityapur police station incharge

In the preliminary investigation, police have learned that the doctor was mentally disturbed since the past few days. "Prima facie it's a suicide bid," OC said.

Amit, who works as a junior doctor in the medicine department in MGM hospital, is scheduled to get married in November, this year. Sources at the MGM hospital, have told that the doctor was also working as a consultant at a private nursing home in Jugsalai. The former IMA Jamshedpur Chapter, secretary, Mrityunjay Singh, expressed shock at the incident but said he is not aware why Amit took the step.
