Three J&K Cong leaders resign in support of 'Azad'

Three more Congress leaders, including a former deputy speaker of J&K assembly, and 12 office bearers of J&K Apni Party announced resignations from their respective parties on Monday in support of veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had resigned from the Congress party last week.

Jammu: Three more Congress leaders, including a former deputy speaker of J&K assembly, and 12 office bearers of J&K Apni Party announced resignations from their respective parties on Monday in support of veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had resigned from the Congress party last week.
Gulam Hyder Malik, former MLA from Bani assembly constituency in Kathua district who had also been deputy speaker of J&K assembly, and two former MLCs (members of Legislative Council) - Subash Gupta from Kathua and Sham Lal Bhagat from Doda - forwarded their resignation letters to the Congress high command on Monday.

In a related, development, 12 J&K Apni Party leaders, including Doda district president, also forwarded their resignation to party president Altaf Ahmed Bhukhari. The mass resignation letter from the Apni Party office bearers stated: "We the following members and office bearers of Jammu Kashmir Apni Party are submitting our resignations to party president Altaf Bhukhari, and intend to frame a new party in consultation with Ghulam Nabi Azad."
