"Once known for incidents of stone pelting, J&K is now seeing its youths play football", said Union sports minister Anurag Thakur on Friday at the opening of the 3rd edition of Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg.

Over 1,500 athletes from 29 states and union territories are competing in the ongoing games.

“Places where stone pelting was common, we now have sports flourishing and we see budding players", said Thakur.

The winter games which was inaugurated on February 10 will go on till February 14.

"If you see lights on at night, you will find Kashmiri youths practising their sports. That’s how much the situation has changed in J&K,” he added.
