Sarpanch husband arrested for shooting wife to death in J&K's Rajouri
JAMMU: Police in Jammu and Kashmir's has arrested a person who is also Sarpanch (Village head) of Panchayat Halka Patrara in Sunderbabi for allegedly killing his wife with his .303 Rifle on late Wednesday evening, officials said.
Rajouri Police said, "In the late night of September 13, an information was received at Police Station Sunderbani that one person namely Yashpal, son of Tirth Ram of Patrara, who is also Sarpanch of Panchayat Halka Patrara, fired upon his wife with VDC ( Village Defence Committee).303 Rifle resulting his wife namely Neelam Devi (46), seriously injured."
"The injured lady was shifted to SDH Sunderbani by her other family members," police said, adding, "later she was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu for specialised treatment", they said.
Police said, "Accordingly a case vide FIR No 63/2023 U/S 307/323 IPC and 30 Indian Arms Act was registered while a team of PS Sunderbani was rushed to the spot which collected all relevant evidences and arrested the accused Yashpal- the Sarpanch".
"The weapon of offence also stands recovered and seized", they said.
"Later injured lady Neelam Devi while undergoing treatment at GMC&H Jammu, succumbed to her injuries, following which police has now added offence in Section 302 IPC in the instant case," police added.
Police said, "The body of deceased has been handed over to her legal heirs after completing all legal formalities."
