Ramban Police foils bovine smuggling bids; rescues 830 animals, registers 50 FIRs

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday rescued 830 bovines and registered 50 FIRs against alleged smugglers in Ramban district, officials said.
Sharing information about foiling of major smuggling bid, SSP Ramban Mohita Sharma said, "Acting tough against the bovine smugglers and curbing the bovine smuggling menace in the district, different police parties of police station Batote, chanderkote, Ramban, Ramsoo, Banihal and Dharmkund intercepted different vehicles and rescued 830 animals from being smuggled to Kashmir.'
"During the naka checking, the police teams intercepted around 48 vehicles on their way from Jammu towards Srinagar and found 830 Bovine animals loaded with utmost cruelty under unhygienic conditions, without any arrangements for fodder and water."
She said, "These bovine animals were being transported to the valley without any valid permission of competent authority, thereby police rescued all the 830 bovine animals.

"In this regard, fifty FIRs got registered in P/S Batote, Chanderkote, Ramban, Ramsoo, Banihal and P/S Dharamkund. All the concerned vehicles were seized, and all accused persons were arrested under relevant sections of law and investigations has been set into motion."
SSP Ramban said, "Distt Police is striving hard and taking every possible step to curb the bovine smuggling menace and seeks support from people to share information about bovine smuggling with police for timely intervention for the cause.
