Major bovine smuggling bid foiled under 'Op Kamdenu' in Ramban; 126 animals rescued

seized eight vehicles and rescued 126 animals being smuggled to Kashmir by the bovine smugglers here on Monday.

Sharing details of foiling bovine smuggling bids, Sr Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban Mohita Sharma-IPS said, “Acting on the specific inputs regarding transportation of bovine animals, police parties of P/S Batote, PS

Chanderkote

& PS Ramban intercepted eight different vehicles (JK02AP 8337; JK02K 8759; JK02AP 8661; JK03C 9009; JK02AP 2481; JK03C 9318; JK08 L 3623 and JK19 6981) being driven by unknown drivers who abandoned these vehicles on seeing police teams while their way from Jammu towards Srinagar.”

“On checking of all these vehicles police teams found 126 bovine animals being transported to valley without any valid permission of competent authority and with utmost cruelty and without any arrangements of food and water,”

SSP Ramban Ms Sharma said, “All these bovine animals were thereby rescued under the ‘Operation Kamdhenu’.

“Meanwhile separate Cases vide FIR Nos 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 & 106/2022 at PS Batote, 83/2022 at PS Chanderkote and 177/2022 at PS Ramban under relevant sections of law stand registered and further investigations were set into motion, ” she added

Lauding the police teams, SSP Ramban said that overall rescue operation was made by police parties under active command of Insp Rakesh Singh SHO Batote, Insp P D Singh SHO Chanderkote and Insp Sandeep Charak SHO Ramban under the supervision of Sh. Pardeep Singh Sen Dy.SP HQ Ramban

“Distt Ramban is striving hard and taking every possible step to curb the bovine smuggling menace, she said, adding, “Police seeks support from people to share information about bovine smuggling with police for timely intervention for the cause.”
