The shop's owner, Sunil Saini, alleged that the accused were members of the notorious Manish Saini gang.
"They just barged into my shop and began attacking customers while vandalizing the shop's counter. One of them also drew out a pistol and brandished it openly," he said. Saini recounted the horrifying incident and mentioned that he had just returned from the market when the accused attacked his shop.
He also said that about a year ago, he sold his house in the neighbourhood. "Immediately after the sale of the house, the Manish Saini gang began targeting me, asking to pay extortion," he said.
Saini and his family had previously filed a complaint about extortion attempts to the police. He said that while some accused were arrested a few months ago, he was still threatened by the accused.
This brazen act of intimidation by the gang struck panic in the area. Additional DCP (East) Avnish Sharma stated that further investigation was underway.
He also said that the police have examined multiple CCTV of the incident, and teams have fanned out in different directions to arrest the accused.
“We are making all possible efforts to track down the accused. Manish Saini was not present in the incident. However, the case is still under investigation,” he added.
