A 30-year-old woman committed suicide in the early hours on Wednesday at village Revada in Pachpadra police station area of Barmer by jumping into a well along with her three daughters.

JAISALMER: A 30-year-old woman committed suicide in the early hours on Wednesday at village Revada in Pachpadra police station area of Barmer by jumping into a well along with her three daughters. All four reportedly died due to drowning. On getting information, Pachpadra police reached the spot and took out the bodies and handed them over to family members after autopsy.

According to the family, the woman Mirgu was depressed after giving birth to three daughters and wanted a son. Mirgu's husband, Gokul Ram, Kalbi by caste, was in a stationery business at Damkhadi in Karnataka. The family including Gokul, Mirgu and their daughters Sumitra (5), Pooja (3) and Anita (1) had come to Barmer to visit relatives on Akshaya Tritiya. When in the early hours on Wednesday, Gokul found his wife and children missing, he started searching for them.
After the incident, the family members of Mirgu were also called and they told the police that their daughter was a mental patient and was undergoing treatment. Station in-charge Shrimali said that during interrogation, her husband said that the wish of a boy had made his wife a patient of mental illness. She was undergoing treatment at Damkhadi in Karnataka and while coming to Barmer, she forgot her medicines and later he got her the medicines from Balotara. A case has been lodged and investigation is on.
