JAIPUR
: Incessant rainfall continued to wreak havoc in the eastern and southern parts of the state on Wednesday. Barmer and Jaisalmer also witnessed heavy showers bringing normal life to a halt. Sindhari in Barmer recorded a rainfall of 200 mm, highest in the state on Wednesday.
Heavy rain lashed Sirohi, Jalore, Pali, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and Bikaner districts too.
In Barmer, several areas near the border witnessed heavy rainfall. Besides Sindhari, nearby villages like Shiv, Chohatan also recorded rainfall varying between 100 mm and 150 mm. It started pouring since early morning in the district. Due to high levels of gypsum in the soil, the rainwater couldn't seep into the ground, thereby, leading to excessive water logging in several regions of Barmer.
The heavy rain washed away the soil under the railway tracks in some areas. On Tuesday, the Samdari-Bhiladi route was also affected for some time.
"Barmer was dry so far but the rainfall activity has suddenly increased and moderate to heavy rain will continue in the district over the next 24 hours," said a Met forecast.
Jaswantpura in Jalore received 160mm rainfall followed by Badesar in Bikaner and Bhinmal in Jalore which received 140mm rainfall each.
Pratapgarh and Ahore in Jalore got 130mm rainfall followed by Mount Abu and Pali at 110 mm, Gangrar in Chittorgarh, Jodhpur and Bali in Pali received 100 mm rainfall.
Rashmi (Chittorgarh), Raipur (Pali), Sumerpur (Pali), Siwana (Barmer) and Osian (Barmer) recorded 90mm rainfall while Pachpadra (Barmer) received 80 mm rainfall.
Other places in the state where rainfall was witnessed included Barmer that recorded a rainfall of 60.9 degree celsius and Churu that recorded a rainfall of 23.8 degree celsius.
Meanwhile, Kota, Jhalawar and Baran recorded relatively less rainfall compared to the previous day. As the water level receded, residents pumped out water from their houses and farms.
