JODHPUR: Parched Pali is again looking at

to quench its thirst. The public health engineering department (PHED) has sent a proposal to re-launch the

train from Jodhpur as Jawai Dam, the only source of water in Pali, is fast drying up.

The situation is such that if Pali does not get rain by next week, the district will again need water from Jodhpur.

PHED Pali executive engineer Rajesh Agarwal said the proposal for the water train had already been sent to the government.

“Once the proposal is approved and budget sanctioned, we will send water to Pali,” Agarwal said.

The first water express to Pali was flagged off from Jodhpur’s Bhagat ki Kothi station in 2001 when the dam had run completely dry. Pali needs 37-38 million litres of water a day (MLD) and because of the acute crisis, water is currently supplied once in three days. “The water train can

10 MLD. In such a case, we will be compelled to reduce supply to once in four days,” he said.
