Truck mows down civil services aspirant in Jaipur

was going to her college at 8.30am when she was hit by a speeding truck while crossing the main road.

Eyewitness told TOI that the truck was overloaded and mowed down the girl. “Her head and face were completely smashed in the accident. It was very difficult to even identify her,” said

on the outskirts of the city, the girl had just arrived in a bus to attend to her morning class. A first year student, the girl was preparing for civil services examination.

Amid the tears and gasps, the truck driver fled by accelerating the speed. “Nobody could note down the registration number of the vehicle. In such cases, police have to rely solely on

footage,” said a senior official.

College students, her friends and nearby vendors informed the police and called the ambulance and rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

The police informed the parents of the girl about the accident and asked them to come to the SMS Hospital. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

Accident police station (Jaipur-South) has registered an FIR against the unidentified driver under Section 304-A (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC.

Singh said that relevant provisions of Motor Vehicle Act pertaining to reckless driving have also been included to build a strong case against the driver.

The accidents in India-2016 report by the Union ministry of road and transport had placed Jaipur among the top three most dangerous cities in terms of accident deaths.
