Kota: This constable turns saviour for two children
Constable Rakesh Meena risks life to save two infants trapped in submerged house in Kota city
JAIPUR/KOTA: It was a scene straight out of a Bollywood film. Cops from various police stations across Kota city were making appeals on loud speaker asking them to remain at safe places on Sunday morning.
Constable Rakesh Meena was passing through Sanjay Colony under Nayapura police station when he heard two children crying. Without wasting a second or waiting for a boat to come, Meena reached the double-storey house in which water level was above 8 feet.

He found two infants (brothers), on the rooftop crying for help. Meena carried them with the help of a tyre tube to a safe place.
Since the low-lying areas of Kota, like Nayapura and Gumanpura, are witnessing flood-like situation, various police teams were in the area to check if anyone is trapped in any building or house.
“The neighbours told me that two children had been left in a house as their parents were shifting items to a relative’s house in a different colony. The water level was increasing when the two kids got trapped on the terrace. I did not hesitate and went inside to rescue the children,” Meena said while talking to TOI on the phone.
Meena was congratulated for this daredevil act. “We never thought that we would see a house that had water reaching the second floor,” Meena said. “Rotey bachon ko dekh kar laga mera beta ro raha hai (On seeing the children crying I felt as if my son was crying),” said Meena who has a one-year-old son.
Meena had come to duty on Sunday evening at 6pm and remained there till Monday 12 noon. His duty mostly involved rescuing people.
Senior police officers of Kota too appreciated Meena’s efforts. “Once the situation becomes normal we will certainly consider appreciating the constable’s efforts,” said Deepak Bhargav, superintendent of police, Kota.
