JAIPUR: The syndicate of
Rajasthan University (RU) on Saturday approved a proposal to expel the registrar of RU, Gautam Mukherjee, for alleged misuse of power, insubordination and non-cooperation with varsity officials. Mukherjee, an RAS officer, has been sent back to his parent department. B L Garg, a financial advisor of the university, has been given the charge of registrar.
The syndicate contended that the registrar was not complying with the decisions of the syndicate or that of vice-chancellor AD Sawant. "After considering the grave allegations against the registrar, the syndicate decided to expel him with immediate effect," said Pratap Singh Kachriyawas, a syndicate member and MLA from Civil Lines constituency.
The members alleged that he took many decisions which involved financial benefits to some teachers while keeping the university in the dark. "He raised unnecessary objections on the promotion of some teachers under career advancement scheme (CAS), though those were in conformity with the university rule book," Kachriyawas added.
He didn't follow the directions of the V-C while placing an advertisement in newspapers, which cost an additional burden of Rs 2 lakh to the university, the syndicate observed.
On the other hand, some varsity officials raised questions on the way a government officer was expelled from the university. "The syndicate members should restrict themselves while using their power to expel a government officer without proving his/her guilty. They should have tried to resolve the matter amicably," said an expert on university affairs.
The syndicate assured the group of university teachers, who were regularised in 2008 to discuss their long pending demand of financial benefits with government. Besides ordering to shift the Sanskrit department to the newly constructed Pandit Badri Prasad Maharishi Sansthan, it also cleared the MoU signed between RU and American Institute of Indian Studies.
