JAIPUR: State home secretary S N Thanvi died on Saturday morning following a massive heart attack. He was cremated at his native place at Phalodi in Jodhpur district on Saturday evening. Life has come to a standstill in the township as the body reached there in the afternoon. The shops and business establishments remained closed.
Thanvi was admitted to thospital following chest pains late on Friday night where he breathed his last around 4.15 am.
He was 56 and is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter.
An officer of 1980 batch, Thanvi had held a number of key posts in the state government including principal secretary, water Resources, irrigation and home in his carrer spanning about three decades.
Rajasthan governor SK Singh espressing shock over the death described Thanvi as an able and efficient administrator while chief minister Ashok Gehlot has commended his services as dedicated and described him as a dynamic officer. the chief minister was among the first to reach the hospital at 4 am in the morning.
Former vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekawat also expressed grief over the death of the senior official. People form various walks of life grieved over the death of Thanvi cutting across the political spectrum. Union rural development and panchayati raj minister C P Joshi, mourned his death.
