AJMER: The state minister for water resources Sanwar Lal Jat said that looking to the water scarcity in the country, it would be good for farmers to adopt spice farming for economical and social development. He also asked for research on various methods of crop production for times when there is scanty rainfall, as is the case presently. Jat was addressing the audience at the inaugural function of the three-day Kisan Mela organised by the National Spice Research Center, on Beawer road.

Jat accepted that at present farmers invest more and get less returns, and therefore it is imperative that such research institutes take up a research on low investment methods. The director of the institute, Balraj Singh, said that in this three-day event, farmers from different parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Haryana are participating and will be briefed about spice farming. Scientist S S Sindhu of Indian Agriculture Research Institute briefed farmers about the farming of flowers citing the example of production of roses in Pushkar.
