SMS hospital sacks 2 audiologists, upgrades ENT facilities
Jaipur: Sawai Man Singh Hospital has removed two audiologists following repeated complaints of rude behaviour, indiscipline and negligence, as part of a wider crackdown on staff misconduct.
Hospital authorities said the two contractual audiologists, who had been working for nearly a decade, were dismissed after multiple patient complaints. “Their behaviour was rude and patients had raised concerns. The matter was escalated and they have been removed,” said Dr Pawan Singhal, head of ENT dept.
The move comes alongside a major upgrade of audiology services. The hospital has expanded its audiology wing from a limited OPD-based facility to an eight-room unit equipped with new machines and improved workflow. Staffing has also been increased to five audiologists, and a dedicated staff resting room has been added.
Officials said the overhaul aims to address earlier complaints of long waiting times due to staff and equipment shortages.
In the surgical block, a new operation theatre has been readied for cochlear implant procedures, while another has been prepared for future installation of a robotic system. Both OPD and OT blocks have undergone renovation to improve efficiency and organisation.
Academic infrastructure has also been strengthened. A seminar room with smart TV and audiovisual support is now in use for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, while an 800 sq ft skill lab with 10 stations has been set up for hands-on training. A dedicated neurotology lab for vertigo has also been established.
Other additions include a new endoscopy room in the OPD, advanced instruments such as a sialoendoscopy set and upgraded audiology rooms. Resting rooms for residents and staff have also been created near the OPD.
Officials said the changes have transformed the ENT dept into a more disciplined, better-equipped and patient-focused unit, with visible improvements in clinical care, surgery and medical education.
