Sindhi Camp Metro artwork defaced

The members of

Contree Foundation

– a group of individuals who have taken upon themselves to beautify some areas of Jaipur – were in for a visual shock when on Friday, they reached the

Sindhi Camp Metro Station

, only to find artwork done by them on few of the metro pillars being altered. Since October 2, under their initiative Rang De! Jaipur, the group has been transforming the filthy places of Jaipur along with the help of the citizens. From December 19 to 24, the group had planned to beautify few areas near

Jaipur Junction Railway Station

. However, on December 22, when few members of the group went to the

Sindhi Camp Metro

Station, they saw that the artwork that they had done on the pillars and the nearby flyover walls was ruined by few people who had scribbled the name of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Our story that appeared in October on the beautification of Sindhi Camp Metro Station

Bharat Singh Chandawas, mahanagar mantri, ABVP, Jaipur, said, "None of the ABVP members are responsible behind this act. All this has been done to malign our image. We understand that public property is not our canvas. In fact, we would like to extend our support to the Contree Foundation and help them beautify more places in Jaipur."

, one of the founding members of Contree Foundation, told us, "We were busy cleaning and beautifying the area near Jaipur Junction Railway Station when members of our group noticed that artwork done on the pillars and flyover walls by us has been ruined by some unknown people. We couldn’t independently identify those responsible behind this. So, we approached the Jaipur Mayor

with the help of a local radio station. He has promised us that strict actions will be taken against those found guilty. Since October 2, we have been transforming the filthy places around Sindhi Camp. In fact, this has also resulted in behavioural change among many who got deterred from urinating or spitting again at any public place. But after seeing all this – that our efforts are being flushed away – our spirits have nosedived. We have decided that we will not touch the artwork that has been ruined and let the government decide what needs to be done."
